TRAINING RESOURCE CENTER

The Coast Guard Auxiliary has developed a virtual clssroom so that members can take courses at their own pace on-line. While this does not elminate the classrooom situation it does enable us to provide better training. You will need to get a password the first time you log on for training. The Training Resource Center is at: http://www.auxtdept.org

AUXILIARY TRAINING COURSES

For a shortcut, you may find training Courses on-line at http://www.auxtdept.org/Members.htm

NATIONAL TESTING CENTER

Tests are avaialble on-line at: http://www.ntc.cgaux.org/

COAST GUARD LEARNING PORTAL

Auxiliary members can also take advantage of Coast Guard courses. The"Gold Side" training is avaialble at http://learning.uscg.mil

Note: I've tried some, but find them lacking beause there are not answers to proposed discussion questions. A student could be way off base and not know it. I used to use and develop programmed courses, but they had correctors in them to keep the student on the intended track.-" webmaster"

NEW FEMA CLASSES

Also please note that FEMA's Emergency Management Institute (EMI) has developed a new NIMS IS-250 training course on Emergency Support Function 15 (ESF 15) regarding External Affairs under the new National Response Framework. The course is presented in five video modules, so your computer must be equipped with speakers and video software such as Windows Media Player. The course takes about one hour to complete and is available free online at: http://www.training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is250.asp

The IS-250 training course is intended for FEMA External Affairs staff and public affairs personnel from other federal agencies that are signatories to the National Response Framework. However, state, local, and other Response Partners that could participate in a Joint Information Center during an incident of national significance under ESF-15 guidance may find this course helpful.

FEMA also offers a NIMS IS-702 course on Public Information Systems that is recommended (but not required) for Public Information Officers and JIC staff who would participate in a Joint Information Center under NIMS Incident or Unified Command. The IS-702 course takes about three hours to complete and is available free online at: http://www.training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is702.asp
